2022 Commencement

The pinnacle of every academic year is commencement weekend and the multitude of celebrations, ceremonies and events to honor Notre Dame’s graduating class. This year was no different, except that it was bigger and better than ever.  Notre Dame Studios and Teaching and Learning Technologies (NDSTLT) again partnered with the Office of the Registrar to live stream Diploma and Commencement ceremonies.

Starting Friday evening May 13 through Sunday afternoon May 15, 29 ceremonies were live streamed to the world for families and friends who could not be on campus in person.  Departmental ceremonies in the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Mendoza’s College of Business accounted for the significant growth over the dozen ceremonies typically live streamed.

Ceremonies took place in Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion, Joyce Center North Dome, Leighton Concert Hall, Dahnke and Downes Ballrooms, Washington Hall among other venues.

Of the 29 events, NDSTLT managed 20 of them and outsourced production of nine of them to audio-video partner Eventsys.  NDSTLT deployed over 30 cameras to capture the events, producing most from the Rex and Alice A. Martin Media Center’s five control rooms but also managing several single-camera streams on-location.   On Saturday, May 14 at 1pm, thirteen ceremonies were produced and live streamed concurrently.

“This was the most prolific Commencement weekend from the sheer number of ceremonies live streamed,” said Lynn Langston, Director of Production for NDSTLT.  “We have a deeply committed team that rose to the logistical and technician challenges for this year’s ceremonies.  We succeeded with teamwork and a focus on planning, communication and execution.”
